Families in recovery
The overall purpose of the scheme is to provide a service that provides information and support to family members and friends to enable them to support the person they care for more effectively, while keeping well themselves.
The aim of the service is to provide support, information and involvement of relatives and friends in treatment
The scheme has three strands:
- The Carer Ambassador Scheme
- Expert Carers Programme
- Support group for families and friends
The carer ambassador scheme
The Carer Ambassador Scheme is a volunteer led service that involves individuals who have personal experience of caring for someone with a substance misuse problem, and who have the capacity to support other carers.
Championing the involvement of family and friends within the treatment service
- To improve outcomes for service user through involving families
- Provide support, information to other carers visiting the treatment services
Expert carers programme
The Expert Carers Programme has been developed to assist relatives and supporters of individuals to understand substance misuse and the treatment journey, whilst sustaining their own quality of life and those they care for.
The rolling training programme consists of:
- Understanding substance misuse and the effect
- Overview of treatments and interventions
- Recovery
- Coping responses and setting boundaries
Family and friends support group
This is a confidential group providing a relaxed and informal support service to anyone who is concerned about someone else’s drug or alcohol use.
We meet at a central Sheffield venue:
Alternate Wednesdays 6.30pm to 8.30pm
